Introduction
    Fudan-Pacific Institute of Finance (FPIF), as an independent institute founded by Fudan University, China Pacific Insurance Company (CPIC) and other corporations, was established in 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. FPIF dedicates to foster the top grade talents in finance and insurance with the backing of Fudan's outstanding prestige, excellent teaching resources and rich teaching experience, and CPIC's abundant fund as well as its notable reputation. FPIF adopts the credit system and issues bachelor diplomas approved by the Ministry of Education. The qualified graduates enjoy the privilege to apply for Fudan's bachelor degrees.
FPIF, with a campus of 822,666 m2 and a total building area of 320,000 m2, sits at Nanhui Technical & Educational Area of Shanghai with beautiful scenery, neighboring on Shanghai Fisheries Institute, Shanghai Institute for Science and Technology, and Shanghai Power Institute. It is equipped with modernized teaching and living facilities, including teaching buildings, an international meeting center, a library, a student activity center, an indoor stadium, outdoor playing-ground, dormitory buildings, a dining hall, and a cafeteria, accommodating 6000 to 7000 students. The campus provides an ideal study and living environment, combining traditional architecture with Chinese southern garden style harmoniously.

Object

   To make full use of Shanghai's regional advantage of being a financial center, FPIF cultivates professional and specified personnel in finance and insurance with inter-disciplinary knowledge and mature practical experience. They are up to international standards and familiar with international acceptable practice to comply with the trend of national and international finance and insurance development.
The faculty team composes of scholars, professors in various academic fields and business elites. FPIF hammers at building up a professional talent base in finance and insurance industries, and a breeding place for future entrepreneurs, and a window and platform integrated with the world. FPIF stresses on fostering student's practical ability through close connection between curriculum and courses with the market requirements, and is oriented by market demand. Keeping a close relationship with financial and insurance companies, FPIF selects the corresponding companies as teaching, researching and practicing bases, providing more practice opportunities for students. Being market oriented, FPIF recruits both degree education and certificate training students to establish a top brand financial education nationwide.

Leader system and organization chart

    FPIF adopts modern enterprise management mode, that is, the President is responsible for overall management under the Board of Directors. There are altogether 11 directors, one from each of the participating investing institutions. A chairman, two deputy chairmen, and two well-known education experts are invited to serve as independent chair directors. Mr. Wang Guoliang, the chairman of CPIC, is the chairman of FPIF.

Mr. Zhang Huiming, economics professor and doctoral supervisor, nominated by Fudan University and appointed by the Board of the Directors, is the first President of FPIF.

With the establishment of party organization, FPIF undertakes party activities in accordance with the requirement and regulation of the Chinese Communist Party Constitution and Shanghai Higher Education Party Committee managed by private sectors. Mr. Feng Wenwei, professor of finance as well as doctoral supervisor, is the secretary of the Party Committee of FPIF.

FPIF sets up Communist Youth League and Labor Union in accordance with the Constitutions of the Communist Youth League and Labor Union and carries on league and labor union activities.

Abiding by the guideline of being scientific, efficient and concise, FPIF sets up four functional sections: general administration, educational administration, school of continuing education, and international cooperation (see chart).

FPIF sets up three committees (academic, educational, and advisory). The academic committee gives suggestions on school running policy, levels, standards, specialties, major academic activities, research projects and projects selection; the educational committee provides guidance to undergraduate education; the advisory committee helps to strengthen the relationship between FPIF and various social organizations.

Curriculum & Recruitment

    FPIF distinguishes itself for its undergraduate education as its image brand and enlarges its influence by international exchange/cooperation and continuing education, which is called one body with two wings to meet with national and international requirements for financial talents.
FPIF, with a four-year schooling system is authorized to recruit students of liberal arts and sciences nationwide in the second higher education enrollment list. Full-time students are planned to reach 7000 within four years.

Concentrating on the concept of "Broad Finance", six departments, one section and two affiliated schools are established under FPIF, which are Insurance Dept., Finance Dept., Financial Management Dept., Financial Service Dept., Accounting Management Dept., Fundamental Education Section, School of Network and School of Continuing Education. There are eight specialties as follows:
1. Finance
Talents in this field are urgently needed during the formation of an international financial center in Shanghai. With a solid foundation of modern financial theories, the students gain basic operation skills through practice and understand the international operative regulations. The graduates can serve at all kinds of finance institutes such as banks, stock exchanges, investment companies and insurance companies in dealing with the daily grind and corresponding business administration.

2. Insurance (including actuary)
Talents in this field are for the rapidly developing insurance industry known as "Golden Collar" internationally. With solid theoretical and strong business operation skills of finance and insurance, they can play their roles in business administration of insurance industry, product sales, product R&D, and actuary, as well as in corresponding jobs in banks, stock exchanges, and investment companies.

3. Accounting
Students in this field are trained to be the professional personnel with the knowledge of management, economics, law, and accounting, and to develop the abilities in accounting and audit practical operation in enterprises, companies, financial organizations, consultative agencies, and government management departments.

4. Financial Management
This area is to foster the professional senior personnel with the knowledge of management, economics, law and finance so that the students can serve in enterprises, companies, financial organizations, consultant agencies, and government management departments, especially in money-raising, capital-running and financial management.

5. Marketing
This area is to foster the students with wider caliber and high creative ability on the base of solid knowledge and skills of management, economics, law and marketing, so as to enable them to be familiar with the regulations of international marketing operations. The students can take jobs in marketing planning and management, especially the practical operations in financial marketing.

6. Information Management and Information System
This major is to foster the students with wider caliber and high creative and practical ability with basic knowledge of modern managements, information science technology. They learn computer information management, and methods and applications of information system analysis and design. They can take up practical jobs in information management, information system analysis, design, consultation, and evaluation.

7. Software Engineering
Students of this specialty are trained to have the ability of creative thinking, sound knowledge of computer science and technology, are professional in developing application software with all kinds of software technology, and can engage in jobs on system analysis and design, website and cartoon design, website maintenance, application program design, software maintenance and administration.

8. International Trade and Economics
Students of this specialty are trained to grasp the basic theory of international business and economics, to understand the developing state of current international business and economics, and understand the conventional regulations and rules in international trade. The students will gain basic operation skills in foreign trade after practice. They will also master solid basic skills in English (listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation). The students can serve in international trade, foreign companies and corresponding international trade and related firms.

According to the plan, FPIF will also offer other new specialties such as exhibition economics, management & administration, actuary, and financial information.

Teaching Staff & Educational Resources

   With the strong backup by Fudan's faculty and with the plan to recruit world class teachers at home and abroad in its beginning, FPIF aims at building a team of first-rated teaching staff, which is considered the focus and crucial point of FPIF's existence and future development. FPIF will establish its own stable team with full-time teaching staff, constituted of professors and associated professors as its main body. The blueprint of FPIF is to create a platform of international education and culture-exchange in the field of economics and finance for those talents, who dream of serving China's higher education reform, construction of subjects in finance and the improvement of courses change in the same field. FPIF also hopes to provide them with the outstanding research and working conditions as well as competitive salaries and compensations. FPIF will explore the new system of employment to satisfy the requirement from Fudan University, adopting a mode of "bilateral-recruiting" between Fudan University and FPIF for some of teaching staff. It sets the plan of " Pacific Scholarship" and "Visiting Professor Seats" to award or invite famous scholars and financiers as FPIF's visiting professor or part-time teachers.

In view to broaden students' knowledge and enhance their quality, FPIF intends to hold a series of academic lectures and seminars supported by Fudan University's predominance in academic subjects in various domain and its powerful team of teaching staff.


FPIF's library is characteristic of its specialty with the concept of "Broad Finance". It owns 150,000 books currently. Relied on Fudan's rich educational resources, FPIF's students can have access to Fudan's library, Campus-Wide Information Server and its digital library. They are also allowed to participate in Fudan University's academic reports and lecture courses so as to get the "win-win" situation in making full use of educational resources.

Matriculation & Job Placement

   As an independent institute invested by Fudan University, Shanghai Pacific Insurance Company and other corporations, FPIF's education at bachelor-degree level is approved and administered by the Shanghai Education Committee. Fudan University and China Pacific Insurance Company pledge to provide our students exclusive opportunities as follows:
1. After completion of the courses in the first year, excellent students are qualified to apply for Fudan University's transfer examination. Those who passed the transfer examination are allowed to enter Fudan University to continue studying the remaining courses with Fudan University's matriculation.
2. With reference to the Government's relative regulations, FPIF has the right for recommending its excellent graduates to enter Fudan University and other universities to continue their master degree courses with exam-exemption.

Due to the Market-orientated courses design and teaching plan, plus the concentrations on fostering students' practice capability, our students are expected to be competitive at their graduation to enter banking, insurance and security industries. Their future is promising.

According to the items in the Fudan-Pacific educational collaboration contract, China Pacific Insurance Company declares that outstanding graduates from FPIF have the priority to be employed by the company and its branch offices.

Continuing Education & International Cooperation

   In accordance with FPIF's planning, CPIC's personnel training program and finance and insurance market requirements, the School of Continuing Education (SCE), as the affiliated school of FPIF, is oriented to train personnel for CPIC as the starting point, and also offers training for financial industries and related enterprises in in-service training, vocational training, and qualification certification training.

SCE strives to build up its image in in-service training in finance and insurance, backed up by Shanghai's regional advantage of being a central financial city and Fudan's advantages. The registered trainees at present are 5,000, and the designed scale could reach 50,000. The number of trainee-days is expected to reach 220,000 per year in the future. SCE pursuits to enhance its image gradually by way of developing market-share primarily in finance and insurance, optimizing the faculty team, exploiting frontier curriculum system, and intensifying advanced training idea and also to provide a strong financial support to FPIF. SCE is equipped with the most advanced management hard ware and soft ware system in China. By cooperating with foreign investment partners, SCE adopts the up-to-date financial theory and its application in real case analysis. The curriculum comprises of both imported and local resources.

SCE emphasizes the exchange and understanding of international financial academic trends to enhance its academic standards in teaching, research and management, strives to build up FPIF's image, upgrades the faculty team, and fosters talents compatible with the world market to upgrade the standard of FPIF by cooperating with foreign universities in offering new specialties and trainings, including MBA programs, and other professional qualification examination trainings in the future.
